Margaret and Monica, Co-founders of MySassySleeve

Margaret & Monica, Co-founders

At the age of 43, following my first-ever mammogram, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  This life-altering news was followed in short order by a mastectomy, chemotherapy and reconstructive surgery.  Never in my dreams did I think these traumatic events would lead into something so positive, like creating MySassySleeve®.  Let me explain: Due to the extent of my surgery, I developed Lymphedema.  For me and many other survivors of breast cancer, this condition causes painful swelling of the arm.  The only way to really manage the life-long condition is to wear an uncomfortable compression sleeve.  I am grateful for it, but the bandage-like garment that I wear all day is a negative reminder of my ordeal.

So that’s how my sister Monica and I were inspired to create MySassySleeve®, a line of fun, slip-on, slip-off tattoo sleeves that can be worn by survivors and supporters alike.  For Lymphedema patients like me, MySassySleeve’s distinctive designs in vibrant colors make a light-hearted (non medical) cover for our compression garments.  For everyone else, MySassySleeve’s playful designs intertwined with pink ribbons provide an opportunity for family and friends to demonstrate what we call, A Singular Show of Support on behalf of their loved ones.

With the help of our graphic artist, Ahren Crumm, we’ve designed
MySassySleeve
® to draw more awareness to the disease that is breast cancer through the use of eye-catching (non- permanent) tattoo sleeves.  Whether walking, running or riding for the cure, we want all who wear MySassySleeve® to have fun while supporting a cause.  A portion of proceeds of every MySassySleeve® sold benefits breast cancer prevention and awareness.

Wearing
MySassySleeve
® empowers us to talk to others about breast cancer and to encourage women to schedule those all-important mammograms.  We hope that you’ll enjoy wearing MySassySleeve® as much as we do and invite you to show us your sassy side at the Photo Gallery on this web site.
